Kubuntu 14 > 16 > 18 update or Ubuntu server with KDE Plasma on top? What is better if

I have VPS 1 2018
So I keen to have apart from couple of small Wordpress sites (my portfolio) a desktop!

To have Kubuntu 14 soundz good, but what about latest 18th version? Should be running fine on VPS1 2018 isnt it?

I'm trying to update Kubuntu 14 > 16 > 18 but takes ages and seems I loose lots if not all of preconfigured stuff, also in 16 seems like I already lost GUI !!!

So another way is to install Ubuntu 18 Server and KDE Plasma on top, but does not seems to be recomended in general.

Any expierience and thoughts on topic or better exectarecomandations plz???

P.S. Is there a way to install any of endlessless Cloud OSes like Joly OS or Zero PC, but seems like I will not be able to run WP same time or is there a way to install both on VPS 1 2018? Have no expirience w it at all...
