What are the free ports for changing my SSH port

Hello!
The other day I was changing the SSH port but when trying to reconnect with the new port didn't respond, so I had to reinstall my VPS, I couldn't access to it. SO I thought was that port was taken by another service. I used the port 2256 that day. If someone knows free ports (not using it) it will be great.
Is a simple web hosting so you can imagine what ports are already taken.
