When in VAC mode my connection drops

When in mitigation mode i think it blocks my ip from which im connecting to it from. it'll be fine i can do whatever i want online when its not in mitigation but as soon as an attack is identified and the server is put in mitigation my it won't connect. i can still log onto the server and connect via openvpn but as soon as i do something that uses internet its blocked
