I'm writing in English hoping to have a clear answer, yet I can read French, but I'm not familiar with the technical words in French.
I've acquired SFR 4G+ box as I live in rural Brittany. Since it's essentially a "mobile" line, I have SIM card and a French mobile number linked to it.
I can plug a normal telephone to my box and I can use it. However, years ago I used to use SIP with Free and I heard about SFR "libretalk", which has stopped.
So, what I'm looking for is a solution where: 1) I could receive calls on my iPhone (which I do want to use my British SIM card and number) addressed to my SFR 4G+ box; 2) SMS as well; 3) Be able to call and send text via the French number.
I don't mind being limited to be only near my wifi SFR 4G+ box but, obviously, it would be great to use it anywhere while connected to internet.
I have contacted SFR support and they told me this is possible with SIP (as I expected) however the assistance could not name the solution due to contractual reasons.
If someone could show me the step stones to sort this conundrum I'd very much appreciate.
Cordialement, merci,
Alan
British in France, I'd like to use my SFR 4G+ box number with my iPhone

SIP requires a subscription to a SIP operator, and you will get an associated phone number (which is usually in the range of land-line numbers)
OVH is such a SIP operator, but beware the regulations oblige them to have the full coordinates of their customers (you will have to provide proof of identity and residence)
If you choose their entry offering, it costs 1€ /month +VAT, includes no free minutes, and the rates are acceptably cheap.
I don't know whether the French mobile SFR and UK operators accept to use SIP as a backup if you have no GSM coverage.
I'm Belgian, and AFAIK our Belgian operators don't provide this.
