Hello,
Could anyone provide some information about bandwidth limitation for free SSL gateway? What upload/download speed and traffic limits should I expect? I didn't found any information on OVH website. Support service is also useless and finally sent me here.
I have some issues with downloading speed that falls to 10Mbps very often. And the issue isn't on my side. And as I can see it doesn't depend on my plan, cause I have the same speed test result from OVH test file uploads, that should have the highest speed.
I also asked OVH support from UK and they said that they dont limit download/upload speed for free plan.
According to OVH speedtest website I have 95Mbps upload/download connection to your server that I use for SSL gateway:

At the same time, downloading speed for this files (the same server) is only 4-10Mbps:

Thanks.

Hello,
and directly from your server ?
Your SSL Gateway are used behind what, a dedicated or VPS server ?
Cordially, janus57
My server located at the same place as me (where I did the test). So on the image is speed test direct from my server. I tried to download files from the same location.
Hello,
could you explain where is your server (not the ssl gatreway) ?
And what is your server (VPS / Dedicated) and the hosting company ?
Cordially, janus57
Hello,
I've already replied. It is placed locally. It means no VPS or dedicated, no hosting company. I manage server and the uplink on my side completely myself.
Hello,
and the "locally" is where, which ISP ?
Cause like that if you DL a file il will do :
visitor => SSL Gateway => your "locally server" => SSL GateWay => Visitor
Cordially, janus57
You can see my ISP on the image in the 1st post.
Downloading goes using the route you described, that is right.
We You use "multiple" network, the bandwidth can be limited by the peering OVH <=> Your ISP.
If you want to avoid the fact that you use multiple network, you need to install lets encrypt directly on your server.
Hi Buddy,
My bandwidth isnt limited between OVH and my ISP. The only one who can limit it is OVH.
Please check my 1st message here. You can see that in OVH speedtest I have 100Mbps, but at the same time downloading files from the same location have much lower speed.
I dont need to install lets encrypt on my server cause the reason I use OVH SSL Gateway is DDOS protection and hiding my real IP.
Speedtest (or npref) uses multiples parralel connexions / transfert to measure the bandwdth (so times up to 16 or 24 parallel connexions). So even if you have 100 Mbits, the peering between your ISP and OVH can be saturated and allow only 5 or 10 Mbits / connexion.
OVH may also have protection for russian ISP due to recent DDos Attacks.
Hello,
well it's not totally true if you have 2 differents results from the same server.
The only difference between nperf and files it's the methode, nperf use TCP sockets.
Cordialement, janus57
Cordialement --> Regards.
What downloading speed do you have for this test files?
As I said my ISP cant limit my connection speed. And I have only 4 hopes to OVH Roubaix server.
"OVH may also have protection for russian ISP due to recent DDos Attacks."
I have white-listed IP, that cant be limited if they have correct settings on their firewalls.
But yes, sometimes I have speed like 50Mbits and sometime only 5Mbits
about 20 MB/s
How can you be so sure ? If OVH wants to analyze / limit all the traffic from/to russia, they can do it...
I don't say that you ISP limit your bandwicth. Read carefully my responses...
Do you know how the network are inter-connected ?? Do you know how and where your ISP is connected with OVH ?
Ok, but why they dont notify about it then? I tried to ask their support... They looks like dont want to help to found the reason.
Because OVH is the target of DDOS from Russia and theydon't want to tell to everybody how they limit the impact of the DDOS ?
The "level 1 of the support" is probably not aware about all the technicial details of the DDOS Protection ...
I still dont understand why they cant whitelist their customers IPs. Its ok if they limit speed from clients from Russia, but why the limit connection between my server?
Is any way to get this information?
Where is your server ?
Where are you ?
As I mentioned that my server and I are in Russia (the same IP). I tried to check speed using European proxy, but have about the same speed.
By the way it can vary from 5Mbps to 100Mbps within ten minutes.
1) everything has already been explicated
2) the SSLgateway is not a dedicated service.
Most of the european hoster received massive DDOS from russia .... And Russia is not the market targeted by european hoster ...
So do you mean that it is 100% reduction caused by OVH for Russian customers?
Do you represent OVH customer policy?
I can say that isnt truth, cause many people here use European services and have no problems.
Hello,
As explain by Buddy, in your case the main limitation will probably be between the SSL Gateway and your server because your traffic will go through multiple network providers and may be limited by one of them.
On our side (SSL Gateway) we have no bandwith limitation on free SSL Gateway but these SSL Gateway are shared so depending on the use of others SSL Gateway that are behind the same link you may not be able to reach your max bandwith.
SSL Gateway are also protected by OVH Anti-DDOS solution so in case an attack is detected we may also use some mitigation technics to protect our customer, but since your traffic is legit you shouldn't be impacted.
Regards,
