Looking for help to transfer FR Perso package over to UK Starter package

Hello there,

After 18 years with a 60gp package on the French side of operations, this package has now been upgraded to a Perso package, and I am looking to transfer my domain, hosting, and email to the UK side of operations, which more suits my location nowadays, and also downgrade from Perso to a Starter package which more fits my needs nowadays.

Regarding hosting, I do not need a web site on the UK Starter package, and so do not need to transfer my FR website over, but have backed up it locally just in case.

Regarding emails, on the FR side I only have 1 email account with 11 "virtual" account redirections, so I reckon it should be fine in the UK Starter package. I have backed up my emails through Thunderbird, both using ImportExportNG and by exporting the Thunderbird profile. I have also exported my email contacts using Roundcube.

I've had a good look around the web for step-by-step instructions on how to do this, but transferring "within" OVH between 2 separate countries (and 2 separate packages) must be unusual because I can't find anything.

OVH Billing is very kindly offering me assistance, and has gone above and beyond to do so, but can only offer me limited help on the actual transfer and configuration itself. I did find this page (https://help.ovhcloud.com/csm/en-gb-web-hosting-migrating-website-to-ovhcloud?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0052799) but I suspect that it is excessively complex for my requirements given that my source and destination are both within OVH itself.

My question is therefore: Has anyone else ever done such a transfer between two separate countries within OVH who could help me with which stages to carry out? I have full admin control of the services related to my website (domain, emails, hosting, DNS zone) on the FR side. I have already set up a new NIC handle on the UK side and plan to purchase the Starter package as soon as I can be reasonably confident that I'm not going to be stepping off a cliff into the void. Of importance to me is that I don't lose email service for more than I have to, the web site itself doesn't matter.

Many thanks in advance. Let me know if you require any further info!

Pete

Hi Pete,

Thanks for your message on OVHcloud Community, sorry it took me longer than expected.

Due to contractual and legal reasons, transferring between the two subsidiaries is not an option.

The only workaround I can suggest is to wait until the expiry date of your services, before which you can set up a backup of your services (except domain names).

You'll be able to link your backups to your new services ordered on the new subsidiary chosen, in your case the ‘UK’ subsidiary.

For domain names, you can keep them on your ‘French’ account and link them to your new hosting services based on your new ‘UK’ subsidiary.

If you want to group everything together on the ‘UK’ affiliate, you have to wait until the domain name has expired and fallen back into the public domain before you can recommend it on the new ‘UK’ affiliate.

However, this action is risky, a third party could order the domain name before your teams do.

I hope I've answered all your questions.

Thank you for your understanding.

Your OVHcloud advisor.

Hello,

Unfortunately your best bet might be to transfer your domain name to some other registrar than OVH. In any case do not let your domain name expire !

Many thanks to you both for your replies - much appreciated.

Laïd, in order to simplify things, I will be transferring the domain and site to a new user on the UK side. In this case, can I ask how the entire email structure can be transferred to the new user and used by the new user on OVH as if nothing has changed? As I mentioned before, if it is useful, I temporarily have an active Thunderbird profile IMAP connected to the email account and have backed up that profile. Note that I am currently on a PERSO package and the new user will be on a STARTER package, if this affects the transfer at all.

Regarding the web site, the new contact will be recreating a simplified site from scratch on the new STARTER package so this is not an issue.

Thanks, Pete.
