Quick question about the stock shortages concerning the VPS line.
I assume that, given the current mess with hardware components, we shouldn't get our hopes up too much about the availability of VPS6 in the coming days/weeks.
Is there any internal information on this situation?
The offers > to VPS‑3 have just disappeared from the site: https://www.ovhcloud.com/fr/vps/
So I’d say it’s looking bleak ![]()
All you have left is the dedicated server or the cloud for 2 million $
Or a VM on one of your dedicated servers (that’s what I’m doing now, at least I control the quality of service, which can be extremely variable on OVH VPS).
Well, personally, I'm gradually stepping back, so I really don't feel like managing a Proxmox host.
That's what I do for a particular client, but with a whole DR plan (backup server, remote storage, procedures, etc.). However, that's not scalable to all clients.
But you're right, having your own Proxmox host and your own VMs is definitely more interesting from a technical standpoint.
Yet if you push the logic to the max, you need a cluster, HA, replication, IP ranges... You quickly end up with a Rube Goldberg machine... Whereas, by taking a VPS, you outsource all that to OVH.
And yes, you're also right about the "variability" of performance between VPSs—I’ve noticed that too.
No Proxmox, but a native KVM/QEMU managed manually with virtsh and a public IP per VM. That's what OVH does.
After that I understand you about the management. I also use OVH VPS when I don’t feel like handling the hardware myself (Postfix relay, etc.).
But the 2026 VPS are clumsy when it comes to CPU performance...
I use RISE‑S, an excellent performance‑price ratio, too bad they can’t be customized.
Anyway there are also bottlenecks on bare‑metal (long live the F5 on Sunday mornings
