Partial migration of MX Plan to Pro Email at OVH: feasibility and customer impact

Hello everyone,

I currently manage a set of about a hundred mailboxes hosted on OVH’s MX Plan. The 5 GB quota is becoming too restrictive for some of my users.

I would like to know if it’s possible to migrate only specific mailboxes to an E-mail Pro (or Exchange) plan, while keeping the rest of my mailbox fleet on the current MX Plan.

Furthermore, for the users affected by this switch:

  1. What technical changes need to be made to their Outlook configuration (switch to MAPI/Exchange, data re‑import, etc.)?

  2. Are there any pitfalls to avoid during migration to preserve the mail history?

Yes

Use Zimbra because in this case there is zero configuration change on the mail servers (provided the passwords are sufficiently complex).
As a bonus it will be much cheaper and better maintained than hosted Exchange.

However, you need to copy the mail from the old mailboxes to the new ones via OMM (look for the procedure in the OVH documentation https://docs.ovhcloud.com/fr/).
