I am new to OVHcloud and have not yet purchased any VPS service from OVHcloud.
I am from Asia and planning to use OVHcloud services for different VPS infrastructure locations. I noticed that some VPS locations are available through the OVHcloud US portal, while other locations are available through the Global portal.
I have already opened a support ticket, but I am still waiting for a response and the weekend is approaching, so I am hoping to get some clarification from the community as well.
I would like to know:
Is it acceptable for a non-US customer to create and use an OVHcloud US account using real information (same name, email address, and payment method) while also maintaining an OVHcloud Global account?
Would using both portals for different VPS locations create any future compliance, verification, billing, or account risk issue?
If this setup is not allowed or may place the account at risk, would it be acceptable if:
a relative/friend located in the USA makes the VPS purchase using my account from the USA, or
the VPS is purchased under their own OVHcloud account and information, then I manage and use the VPS remotely from my location in Asia?
I urgently need a VPS server and have been waiting for support clarification, especially with the weekend approaching.
I want to make sure I follow OVHcloud policy correctly before proceeding.
Yes, I can select datacenters from my region portal, but some specific US VPS locations appear to be available only through the OVHcloud US portal. That is why I wanted clarification before proceeding, since I do not want to violate any policy or create any account risk issue.
For now, I am also waiting for the official support response.
I wouldn't be surprised if OVH separates the two infrastructures because of the very deep differences (between the US and Europe) regarding personal data protection.
If you take a VPS located in the US, say in VI, TX, or OR, can you host a GDPR‑compliant server on it, in the same data centre, the same rack, the same host, the same disk array?
@kloudwebs I'm asking my colleagues but I'm pretty sure this is the normal procedure if you need to order services in our US-based datacenters as those cannot be ordered via OVHcloud EU or CA accounts.
@kloudwebs I confirmed with our legal teams that it's perfectly acceptable to have one OVHcloud EU account and one OVHcloud US account, both with the exact same contact information. OVHcloud EU and US are separate entities which do not share information with each other.
