Random connection issues on a single account across multiple devices

Hello everyone,

I have an issue with one client who experiences random connection problems to the same mailbox. All five workstations are connected via Thunderbird to the mailbox using IMAP, but from time to time the connection to the server is refused. A few minutes later it works again…

On some days every workstation is affected.

I should mention that the mail volume (sent/received) is high for this mailbox (customer support handled by five people).
It runs on the Hosted Exchange infrastructure in SE. The server is ex4.

Another point: the Exchange is non‑authoritative because other mailboxes on the same domain are on an MXplan.

So, are there limits on the number of requests/connections on Hosted Exchange? Do you have any idea how to solve this problem?

P.S. Since webmail works, support sends me nowhere. We have checked the security options in the manager, changed the mailbox password, and reinstalled Thunderbird…

Hi @Coug

In Thunderbird, for the SAV account, set up a less frequent sync or longer intervals. OVHcloud may not publish a fixed connection limit for the client, but the Exchange technology itself does have limits that, in cases of high concurrency, can cause exactly the problem you describe.

I’d also recommend checking the activity of the stations. Make sure there are no stations with Thunderbird open but without real activity, keeping active connections unnecessarily.

Try reducing the server’s maximum connections to the cache:

Account Settings > Server Settings > Advanced

Let me know how it goes, cheers.
