Urgent: VPS soft lock after yesterday's security patch

Hello,

Following the deployment of a security patch yesterday by OVH on the VPS and the forced reboot, my VPS never recovered.

My VPS is a Debian 13.5.

The VPS is inaccessible from the outside, and from inside the VPS we have access to nothing, as if the VPS network were completely unplugged.

I already opened a ticket, but support hasn't been very helpful.

For your information I never touched the network configs on my VPS and everything worked fine before this forced reboot; since then I feel like I'm soft‑locked.

I can connect to the VPS via KVM (stuck in QWERTY I won’t tell you the hell of entering passwords and commands)

I have virtually no network command/service available on the VPS, ip, ifconfig, networkd, netplan, dhclient, dhcpd, all commands are not found.

systemctl --failed shows that the service systemd-networkd-wait-online.service is in error Wait for Network to be Configured

The service systemd-networkd does not exist.

networkctl shows I have a network interface named ens3 which is in state off

Obviously, with my VPS having no network access, I cannot install new packages, which makes me think my VPS is indeed soft‑locked.

On Twitter, OVH asked me to go through one of their partners to try to fix this, €220 to fix the mistake they themselves made by installing this patch, I find that scandalous :sob:

Any idea how to get me out of this mess?

Do you have KVM on your VPS? What model is it?
Are you maybe in rescue mode? Did you try rebooting by selecting 'LOCAL' in your manager?

Is there a way to know if I’m in rescue mode from the VPS?
I’ve already tried several reboots “Restart my VPS” from the “LOCAL” menu, without improvement.

I was actually hesitating to try “Restart in rescue mode” hoping to get SSH access and retrieve my data before completely reinstalling the VPS

so you weren't in rescue.
Yes, try a boot in rescue mode, even just to see if it unlocks your local‑mode boot.

Call support, usually between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.; there generally isn't much waiting.
