In a previous thread on the same topic, various solutions were proposed; I’m writing this here to revisit those solutions so you don’t waste your time.

I remind you of my original need. Create a catch‑all (or catch‑all in English, but I prefer the French term!) : receive all emails of the form yy@domain.xx (yy being anything) and forward them to an external address.

  • ProtonMail : it’s an email service; I explored its features and it does not meet the need.
  • Zimbra Starter : also an email service. The guide here https://docs.ovhcloud.com/fr/guides/web-cloud/email-and-collaborative-solutions/mx-plan/email-zimbra#login does not allow creating catch‑alls.
  • The only offering that meets my need is Planet Hoster’s, easy to set up and effective, BUT you have to buy what they call a Web Project for €96 per year. As my son would say, that really hurts the eyes!
  • I haven’t explored all the other proposed solutions because I lack time.

If anyone has a solution at OVH I’m still all ears.

The only one that works and that I’ve tested is the one offered by PlanetHoster.

The providers don't want them. It's just for collecting spam.

Check out spamgourmet.com (it's an ancestor dating back to the early 2000s) if it fits your needs.

Otherwise you'll need to rent a server and manage your emails. (suggestion: VPS, Debian, YunoHost)

Since there is no native catch‑all, a practical solution I would recommend is setting up a mail filter that works as one.

Take a look at this:

You can create a rule in your Zimbra mail account that forwards all messages, except those addressed to your existing accounts, to your external address. You can do this from the client area or directly from the webmail.

I’ve suggested it as an inexpensive and simple solution, and just to make you smile lol, it made me laugh :slight_smile:

Thanks @sturpin: I’ve read the content of the link.

This solution is valid for a finite set of incoming mails. I mean the filters work fine for each configured incoming email address.

But for any arbitrary incoming email address.

I want yy@domaine.xx to forward the received message to an address, e.g., contact@toto.com

AND WHATEVER yy ... that’s where the issue arises (previously there was postmaster@toto.xx at OVH ... a catch‑all that worked very well).

I’m going to drop my search because I feel I’m going in circles.

Yes, OVHcloud has made this design choice with Zimbra to simplify the offering and avoid massive spam problems and misuse of the catch‑all.

So a catch‑all that also does redirection?

Point the domain to Cloudflare, use the mail function, create a routing address in catch‑all mode, done… It’s free…

I say it over and over, I only ask to see a European shop that would try to do as well as they do, even with a plan at a reasonable price.
But Cloudflare provides a monstrous range of services at a negligible price (lots of free options).

There, the person in the original post can’t find a solution with a provider (not even talking about Europe), well Cloudflare meets his need, for free…

Our job, as a technical provider, is to deliver solutions to clients, within a controlled budget. And, unfortunately (I remain a strong supporter of European solutions first), to do the job, in a “simple” way, you often have to go through CF… Or otherwise set up an entire infrastructure, which will cost much more (not hard when CF is free), and especially, that you have to maintain on your side…

I’m surprised by this statement, because the evidence I have shows that the catch‑all function works perfectly on several of my sites at OVH … where I’ve been for over 25 years :wink:. But maybe you’re right about the versions you know.

I just tried to transfer a .EU domain … unfortunately I got this information: .eu domains aren't supported yet. You can't transfer this domain right now, but you can still add it to Cloudflare to improve performance and security.

Too bad.

I'll stop my research here because I have other tasks to complete.

No, they’re not saying you can’t use CF with a .eu domain.
But that you can’t transfer it to CF, that is, use CF as the registrar.

You can still add the domain on CF, change the NS at the current registrar, and bam, it works like chocapics.

Don’t touch it at all; you wouldn’t be able to restore it.
