Hello,
My disk space is shown as full on my Start hosting plan, even though it isn’t!
I downloaded the FTP files to inspect. They only weigh 390 MB.
We are far from the 1000 MB included in the offer.
I have nothing else on this hosting; it’s a small one‑page WordPress site.
This blocks my site.
the server returns 550 Can't create directory: Disk quota exceeded.
How can I have the quota recalculated? Could the problem be coming from somewhere else?
I tried contacting OVH by phone, no answer, nor by chat, and the ticket… I have received no response.
I got OVH support in less than a minute (8:30 thanks for the time info), and they asked me to mark my ticket as resolved (duplicate with the call, I think).
Proposed solution: escalation to the hosting technical team to obtain more information about what is causing this over‑quota on your hosting.
There you go! I’ll wait and will come back to post the next updates.
I solved the problem by deleting the "Object" folder inside the "wp-content/cache/object/" directory.
W3 Total Cache had created roughly 35,000 tiny cache files of a few bytes each. On my local machine, their content amounted to about 6 MB. But on the OVH disk, each file occupies a minimum space, even if it contains only a few bytes.
What’s not normal is that OVH doesn’t calculate the actual size ...
By deleting the 6 MB folder, I freed up 400 MB...
Even if a file contains only 10 characters, the space taken on a hosting will occupy a whole sector, but in some cases for characters we will take 4 KB, and possibly much more on certain servers.
Thus the space taken on the server’s disk includes the entirety of all those sectors.
I tried clearing the cache; my site runs on Joomla, but since I exceed the quota (102.4 GB / 100 GB according to OVH), as soon as I touch the site—whether in the CMS administration or via Filezilla—the site crashes with a 500 error. I can’t add a file, which I understand, but I also can’t delete one.
You need to do it directly via your FTP. On my WordPress site, when I cleared the cache from the admin area, it didn’t do anything. Doing it from the FTP worked effectively. Good luck.
I haven’t checked the logs; as soon as I perform an action my site crashes. I didn’t ask them to check the number of inodes, they told me there are hidden files that I can’t see with Filezilla. They deleted the folder www/images/administrator/cache (which I couldn’t do myself, it would have been ineffective).
There is also an unnamed sub‑folder in www/administrator/? that contains ":".
