OMM and migration from Gmail to Email Pro

Bonjour à toutes et tous

Je dois migrer une messagerie actuellement sous gmail vers un compte créé chez OVH dans le service email pro. Je compte utiliser l'outil OMM qui a l'ai de prendre en charge de manière sécurisée.

J'ai 2 questions sur ce sujet :

1°)la migration migre-t-elle aussi les contacts sous Gmail vers Email Pro?

2°)une fois le projet activé, combien de temps faut-il compter pour aller au bout de la migration sachant qu'il y a pas mal de mails (quota Google de 15Go rempli à 80%) et un peu plus de 530 contacts?

With the OMM tool you can migrate your Gmail account to an Email Pro account without any problems.

Yes, OMM migrates contacts, as well as emails and other items such as calendars and tasks, provided they are compatible with the destination account.

It's difficult to give you an exact time because it depends on several factors, such as the connection speed to Gmail, the amount of data (your mailbox is at 80% of 15 GB), and the server load at that moment.

Before starting the migration, I suggest you make a backup of your Gmail mailbox as a precaution against any data loss.

Unfortunately, OVH Mail Migrator is not functional with Gmail addresses because Google blocks its use :frowning:

Thanks to both of you. Indeed, the migration tool seems ill‑suited. Yet it is sometimes described as the safest tool, even for Gmail accounts. You read a bit of everything and its opposite on the web...

Anyway, I’ll keep digging into the issue and will get back to you if needed. Thanks again for your advice.

Yes, this document is very clear and very instructional. It is evident that, indeed, the migration of contacts is theoretically possible via OMM, provided certain precautions. I will analyze it in depth.

It may have worked with Gmail before, but in any case, even before the tool's update, Google had already blocked OVH Mail Migrator :wink:

The other solution you have is to sync your Gmail address with an email client (Outlook or Thunderbird, for example) in order to export from that email client: https://docs.ovhcloud.com/fr/guides/web-cloud/email-and-collaborative-solutions/migrating/manual-email-migration#thunderbird

Or with imapsync https://github.com/imapsync/imapsync after obtaining an application password. The advantage is total control and visibility of what might go wrong.
Gmail seriously limits the speed or stops after a few hours, so plan for multiple synchronizations and allow enough time...

OK. So thank you all very much. In the end I changed my strategy. I'm moving my mailbox to Zimbra, which largely eliminates the need for the OMM tool (and incidentally allows synchronized use of the mailbox and the address book).
