@le_sbraz should be able to answer you precisely, I think.
Personally I now use "Serial over LAN (SoL)" with an RSA key—very effective and reliable in a regular console.
Available on all the servers I have, from KS to Advance.
Hello,
I can already bring back the message sent on April 28, 2026 to the sd‑pro mailing list:
For our baremetal offerings T3 Advance, T4 Scale and T5 High Grade, the features related to the BMC, including the BMC KVM, are guaranteed (in first life).
On the waterfall of these offerings for several years now (2020 or later) for KS and SYS and RISE OLD, you therefore have this inherited feature but it is not advertised as guaranteed; unless these servers are deployed in older infrastructures, the function remains OK.
This is not the case for T2 RISE‑S/M/L, which was built without this option on a large part of the range.
You are installing non‑standard OSes that require an ISO? They don’t install via iPXE, for example?
Hello TTY, thanks already for this feedback. While waiting for @le_sbraz to respond, can you tell me how you proceed with "Serial over LAN (SoL)"? Is it possible to launch the installation of an OS via an ISO image on a new server? If so, what is the procedure?
The SOL replaces the KVM console by providing a serial console (where you can copy‑paste text, for example) but does not allow mounting an ISO. However, what I recommend, if possible, is to install the OSes via iPXE scripts, for example with https://netboot.xyz/.
In this mode of operation, iPXE downloads the installers from the Internet, which is much faster than downloading an ISO via the BMC.
Actually I want to install the sippysoft softswitch on a SYS-1 in Gravelines. The KVM is present, but the ISO image doesn't load completely and gets stuck at 87 KB even though the image is actually 58 MB. Curiously, I can upload a 1 GB ISO via the same server's KVM from a tiny CentOS 7 instead. I even tried BYOI, but it doesn't support the ISO format. Sippy support is ready to take control to perform the installation, provided the ISO loads and the installation can be started.
@le_sbraz the ISO loads fine on a local VM and the installation starts, but sippy support requires a dedicated server to proceed with the installation.
I finally found a server that supports KVM via a Java applet, the SYS‑2 | Intel Xeon‑D 2141I, but the installation fails with the following error:
"Fatal Error — Installation data is corrupted. Please check that the installation image has been downloaded in full and that the boot media contains no errors."
It’s a soft‑RAID server and I think that’s the problem. I contacted Sippy support and their response is below:
Hello Fidele,
**
I've tried uploading different ISO listed below, however the result is still the same shown on screenshot.**
